BCS heads to regional semifinal

The Panthers peppered host Lakeland Victory Christian in three games Tuesday in Class 1A-Region 3 quarterfinal, winning 25-6, 25-10, 25-10.

Maria DeKuiper had eight kills and five blocks and Emilee Womack had six aces for BCS (23-5), the runner-up out of District 8.

Savannah Smith had 20 digs and five aces, Abi Van Ostenbridge and five kills and seven assists and Kelly Moss added three kills and two blocks for the Panthers.

Looking to go back to the Class 1A state final four for the second straight year and third time in four seasons, the Panthers head to Tampa Bayshore Christian — which defeated BCS in the District 8 title game last Thursday — 7 p.m. Tuesday in a regional semifinal.

Girls soccer

PALMETTO 1, MANATEE 0 — The visiting Tigers beat the Hurricanes for the first time.

Megan Peterson scored the game’s lone goal for Palmetto (1-0), while Paige McFarland had eight saves to preserve the shutout for the Tigers.

SAINT STEPHEN’S 6, BAYSHORE 0 — The visiting Falcons opened the season by blanking the Bruins.

Amy Ivin, Martine Miller and Hannah Howell had two goals apiece for Saint Stephen’s (1-0).

BRADEN RIVER 1, CARDINAL MOONEY 0 — Jessica Price scored in the Pirates’ win.

Rachael Talley dished out the assist and Amber McCullock had seven saves for Braden River (1-0).
