Local firms collect awards from governor

A Manatee and a Sarasota company were among 16 Florida companies to receive a Governor's Business Diversification Award, which recognizes business achievements that advance the state's economy through job creation and distinctive community involvement and capital investment.

Sunovia Energy Technologies of Manatee County was named in the green to gold category.The company produces energy-efficient LED lighting products for roadways and buildings. Recorders Division and Medical Education Technologies/METI from Sarasota, which creates medical learning tools, was in the innovation category. Coordinated by Enterprise Florida, the presentation is held annually.

Monogram Market opens

SARASOTA - The Monogram Market, a personalized gift boutique, has opened at the Alchemy Day Spa, 352 Somerset Ave.

The business specializes in monogramming. Hours are from 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturdays, which will change to 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in October.
