A group of senior citizens gathered outside the Manatee County Courthouse on Thursday to protest high gas prices.

The seniors made a pact several weeks ago at a bar that they would protest the rising fuel costs.

The result: about 12 seniors Thursday on the courthouse steps voicing their opposition to spiraling gas prices they say are particularly bad for senior citizens.

"It's just one more problem that seniors are facing," said Bob Connors, 61. "We need to fight the high prices in food, the high prices in cost of living and now the high prices in gas."

Connors said his friend Carol Lancaster, a bartender, came up with the idea for the protest.

The two advertised the date and location on Connors' 1490 AM radio show, Smart Talk for Seniors.

"It's just something that's on everyone's mind," Connors said. "This was just out of frustration as a way to express yourself because of the high gas prices."

Through protests, people have fought all sorts of injustice; Some folks ask, why not shout about rising fuel costs?
