BRADENTON — The Translation Link is launching its “We Give Gracias!” program.

From now through Nov. 23, the company will discount its services by 20 percent, with 5 percent of the promotion revenue going directly to benefit The Food Bank of Manatee- Meals on Wheels Plus program.

Clients also can opt-out of the discount offer and instead authorize it to be applied to the Meals on Wheels Plus program.

BB&T buys Oswald Trippe

RALEIGH, N.C. — BB&T Insurance Services acquired the Fort Myers-based Oswald Trippe and Co. Inc.

The purchase comes after BB&T acquired Colonial Bank in August to expand its business in southwest Florida. Financial terms of the deal that closed Monday were not disclosed.

“With the recent growth of BB&T in southwest Florida following the Colonial acquisition this is a perfect combination and an outstanding addition to our Florida insurance franchise,” said Wade Reece, chairman and chief executive officer of BB&T Insurance Services, in a news release.

In 2006, BB&T acquired Bradenton insurors Wyman, Green & Blalock.

Collection drive to culminate with book sale

BRADENTON — With more than 5,000 books collected, First Bank’s book collection drive will culminate with the Literacy Council Book Sale & First Bank Saturday Celebration from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 14 at the bank’s Bradenton office, 7051 Manatee Ave. W.

“The number of books we have collected at our seven Manatee County branches has been truly outstanding,” said Anne Lee, First Bank’s Retail Banking President for Florida. “We encourage everyone to purchase some books during our Saturday Celebration in support of the Literacy Council of Manatee County.”

New, slightly used and used books can be purchased during the event with all proceeds going to the Literacy Council of Manatee County. Hot dogs, popcorn and soda will be available. The unique First Cash Cruiser (mobile ATM van and the First Bank racecar along with junior dragsters from Bill Lee’s Racing also will be on hand for viewing.

New and used books can still be dropped off at the following First Bank locations: 2412 Cortez Road W.; 9819 Cortez Road W.; 4601 Manatee Ave. W.; 7051 Manatee Ave. W.; 415 53rd Ave. W.; and 3005 53rd Ave. E.; 5390 Gulf of Mexico Drive in Longboat Key and 995 N. Haben Blvd. in Palmetto.

Animal rescue to open thrift store

LAKEWOOD RANCH — The Honor Sanctuary Animal Rescue will open its thrift store on Nov. 14 at 3518 53rd Ave. W. in Bradenton.

The store will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday and noon to 4 p.m. on Sundays.

There will be all types of clothing, household goods, furniture and furnishings as well as cameras, small electronics, TV’s, DVRs, luggage, toys, paintings, pictures and jewelry.

Gently used items are needed and a donation receipt will be given for all donations. There is also a “Name That Thrift Shop” contest. Register online at www.NameThatThriftShop.info. The winner will receive a $100 shopping spree.

All revenue from the thrift store helps to pay for costs of the shelters for dogs and cats.
