MANATEE — A job fair is scheduled Friday from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. at Jobs ETC, 3660 N. Washington Blvd., Sarasota.
The event will be open to veterans at 9 a.m. and to the general public at 11 a.m. Employers participating include Areotek, Comcast, Goodwill, Ritz Carlton, Salvation Army, Spherion, SunTrust, The Oaks Club, TRC Staffing Services, U.S. Army, and WalMart. Representatives also will be on-site from local agencies to provide information regarding veteran’s support services.

New Japanese restaurant opens
UNIVERSITY PARK — The Kumo Japanese Steakhouse and Sushi restaurant opened at University Parkway and Honore Avenue.
It is the third and largest Kumo restaurant, featuring 10 hibachi tables, multiple dining areas as well as a sushi and cocktail bar.
Less than a mile from I-75, the restaurant will front the University Park Center plaza, currently anchored by Kohl’s department store and Fresh Market.
Green Home Tour coming Nov. 21
MANATEE — The Myakka River Branch of the US Green Building Council and the Home Builders Association Manatee-Sarasota are sponsoring a Green Home Tour Nov. 21 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The tour will introduce the public to the comfort, quality, safety, durability, and energy performance in green homes.
Each home on the tour will be certified or in the process of certification, guaranteeing they have met the green building standard of the US Green Building Council, the Florida Green Building Coalition, or the National Association of Home Builders.
The tour will be conducted in conjunction with Sarasota County government and will feature more than 20 homes throughout Manatee and Sarasota counties.
Tickets for the tour are $10 for adults. Children under age 18 are free. Tickets are available online at www.sustainabletampabay.org and available from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. the day of the tour at Urfer Family Park at the corner of Bee Ridge Road and Honore Avenue. Attendees also will receive a tour about the green features of Urfer Family Park.

Indian restaurant opens
SARASOTA — Daawat, an Indian restaurant, has opened at 239 South Links Ave. in the Towles Court Art District in Sarasota.
The restaurant features Northern and Southern Indian specialties prepared by Chef Raj. Owner Amisha Desai, was the owner of the popular Spice Cafe in Orlando, which won an award as the “Best Indian Cuisine in 2008.”
The restaurant serves lunch from 11:30am to 2:30pm Monday through Saturday and dinner Monday through Sunday from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. and until 10:30pm on Friday and Saturday evenings.
