My first car: A brown 1980 Toyota Corolla, five-speed.
What I liked about it: I liked the car mostly because it belonged to my dad, Robert G. Hazelton Jr., who passed away from illness about six months before I got my license at 16.
My favorite memory: Learning to drive early with my dad at around age 13. He would take me on some dirt roads to teach me the basics of the manual transmission and staying in control. Then later I took the car off-road one time before I had my license. About seven friends were in there with me, without my dad. Those skinny tires did not do very well in the sand.
What I drive now: A 2007 Nissan Murano, which can fit more friends than the Toyota did and does much better in the sand.
