Dermatologist Gary B. Rosen has joined The Eye Associates. Rosen is board certified in dermatology by the American Board of Dermatology and a fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology.

Fifteen First Bank employees recently completed training for Checking Network USA, a new nonprofit program that provides assistance to individuals without a banking relationship gain financial knowledge and access to mainstream financial products.

First Bank employees who completed the training include Twila Averill, Kathy Carlson, Janet Miller, Crystal Doyle, Sharon Dropp, Sandy Golberg, Sherry Harris, Dick Hillier, Ben Kleyla, Terry Lorenz, Ann Marie Di Toro, Renee Sharifrazy, Andrea Tetl, Shirley Walker and Jonna DeCoeur.

Dr. Charles R. Davenport with Carter Psychology Center recently was issued an upgraded license by the Florida Board of Psychology. Davenport treats anxiety disorders, depression and adjustment disorders. He has specialized training in working with children, young adults, couples and families, and provides comprehensive neuropsychological and psychological testing.

Lester Rice, director of Community and Government Relations for Coastal Behavioral Healthcare, has been appointed to the Florida Department of Health’s Brain and Spinal Cord Advisory Council. The appointment was made by Florida Surgeon General Ana Viamonte Ros. The council is the principal advisory body to the health department’s Brain and Spinal Cord Injury program.

Gerald Rivera, director of DeSoto County Services for Coastal Behavioral Healthcare, Inc., received the “Professional of the Year” Award from the Florida Alcohol and Drug Abuse Association. The award is presented to an individual who has demonstrated superlative ability in the field of alcohol and drug abuse treatment and prevention services. Rivera, a licensed clinical social worker, has demonstrated dedication and commitment to client care while striving to educate DeSoto residents about the availability of services. He has worked with staff to increase understanding of rural behavioral healthcare needs, thereby enhancing effective delivery of services to members of the DeSoto community.
