Edwin M. Boyer, a partner in the Sarasota law firm of Boyer and Jackson P.A., was sworn in as vice president of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys at its annual meeting in Washington, D.C., recently. The academy is a national 4,000-member nonprofit association of attorneys who are experienced and trained in working with the legal problems of aging Americans and individuals of all ages with disabilities. Boyer is board certified in elder law by the Florida Bar and practices exclusively in the area of elder law. He is also an adjunct professor at Stetson University College of Law.

Kathleen White was top sales agent, and John van Zandt was top listing agent for Island Real Estate of Anna Maria Island in April.

Judy Kepecz-Hays, of Coldwell Banker Residential Real Estate’s Longboat Key office, recently closed the largest home sale in Sarasota County so far this year. She represented the buyer, who paid $4.75 million for the waterfront home on South Spoonbill Drive.

James Dickason and Cat Hosfeld Buchmueller of Fawley Bryant Architects Inc.’s Sarasota office have earned Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Accredited Professional designations from the U.S Green Building Council.

Elizabeth Lindsay, partner at L3 Farms, has been appointed chair of the University of South Florida Sarasota-Manatee Board. Rick Smith, managing partner of Christopher, Smith, Leonard, Bristow and Stanell, P.A., has been appointed as vice chair.

LECOM President John Ferretti and Provost Silvia Ferretti were awarded honorary degrees from Seton Hill University during May 9 commencement ceremonies. The Ferrettis were recognized for their contributions to health care and medical education.

The couple has provided the vision and leadership in extending the Erie Medical College to an additional location on the Greensburg, Pa. campus.

Charles R. Baumann of Kerkering, Barberio & Co., PA, certified public accountants, has been granted the Certified in Financial Forensics credential, which is granted by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.

The CFF encompasses fundamental and specialized forensic accounting skills that CPA practitioners apply in a variety of service areas, including bankruptcy and insolvency, computer forensics, economic damages, family law, fraud investigations, litigation support, stakeholder disputes and valuations.

Rick Smith, managing partner at the Sarasota office of CS&L CPAs, spoke to graduating students of the Florida Gulf Coast University School of Business to discuss the transition from the classroom to the workplace. Smith discussed the level of commitment that is required to be successful in the workplace.
