Earning the top seed didn’t just net Braden River a first-round bye — it got the Pirates a home game, as well.
Instead of having all the games at one site, the Class 4A-District 10 tournament will be played at various schools, with the higher seed hosting each one. Top-seeded Braden River will host either Lakewood Ranch or Seminole Osceola in a semifinal slated for 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 28.
If the Pirates win that game, they will host Thursday’s championship match, as well. Bayshore, the tournament’s No. 2 seed, hosts St. Petersburg Dixie Hollins Tuesday and with a win, will host a semifinal Wednesday, as well.
SAINT STEPHEN’S
The Falcons are soaring at the right time, having won 11 straight matches for a record of 18-4. In fact, Saint Stephen’s hasn’t lost a GAME during that time, record all their wins via sweep.
The last time the Falcons didn’t win was during the finals of the Manatee County championships, when they lost in three games to Bradenton Christian. The final was best two-out-of-three.
That was Sept. 19.
Saint Stephen’s wraps the regular season Thursday — which is also Senior Night — against visiting Bayshore. The Falcons scheduled match with Bradenton Christian on Tuesday was cancelled.
The Falcons open postseason play next Tuesday when they play Out-of-Door Academy 6 p.m. in a Class 2A-District 11 semifinal. Saint Stephen’s is the second seed in the tournament, which will be played at ODA.
BRADENTON CHRISTIAN
Having clinched the top seed for the Class 1A-District 8 tournament, Bradenton Christian will simply be playing the waiting game.
The Panthers will face either fourth-seeded Seffner Christian Academy, the tournament’s host, or fifth-seeded Citrus Park Christian 7 p.m. next Tuesday in a semifinal.
The Panthers have advanced to the Class 1A final four two of the past three seasons.
