BRADENTON — Christian Catlin said he heard a voice inside his head when he was roaming Bradenton Christian’s secondary and snagged two interceptions.

“I was just playing my zone,” the Cardinal Mooney transfer said. “And I listened to coaches’ voice in my head, saying ‘Drive.’ In practice he says, ‘Drive,’ when we drive on the ball ... and it ended up in my hands.”

The junior led a Panthers defense that hauled in six picks in a 42-0 romp over Naples First Baptist Academy on Friday during homecoming week at BCS.

The defense limited the Lions to 40 yards of total offense in the first half. Then BCS (5-0) amped up the pressure after halftime as its zonal schemes wreaked havoc for the first-year Naples program.

“It helps a lot, because you can just follow his eyes,” Catlin said about the defensive scheme.

The Panthers’ defensive front honed in on the Lions freshman QB Corey Todd — getting to him in such a short amount of time that they forced the right-hander into numerous quick decisions.

And those decisions resulted into early heaves with the ball-hawking swarming BCS corners jumping First Baptist Academy wide receivers’ routes, and ending up with the ball on six occasions.

“We wanted to take a young quarterback and make him uneasy back there,” Panthers coach Allan Gerber said.

The Lions also lost two fumbles, bringing the turnover barrage to eight.

The BCS offense also clicked.

Senior wide receiver Egan Fridenberg caught touchdown passes of 20 and 21 yards.

He used his 6-foot-6 body to position his towering frame over the defensive back in grabbing both strikes from quarterback Myles Braxton-Johnson.

“I gave an inside move, got outside of the corner, and the quarterback threw it up and I went up and got it,” Fridenberg said.

Running back David Schopfer also added three touchdowns, finding pay dirt from 13, 3 and 51 yards.

Schopfer finished with 109 yards on 14 carries.

However, as good as the Panthers were on both sides of the ball — they did pile up the penalties.

They were flagged 11 times Friday — most coming on offensive holding calls.

BCS will look to extend its unbeaten streak when it hosts Naples St. John Neumann at 4:30 p.m. next Friday.
