“Our main focus is on the students... We empower them with skills and vocational training, and help them find employment as well.”

The beauty of Bradenton Beauty and Barber Academy is this outstanding business’s ability to change people’s lives for the better.

In an economy where many are having to re-think careers and go back to school-or reconsider the cost of college for high school graduates-Bradenton Beauty and Barber Academy offers opportunities for all.

“Our main focus is on the students,” says Arturo Santos, Jr., son of owner Patty Galdamez. “We empower them with skills and vocational training, and help them find employment as well.”

Arturo, a 2006 graduate of Louisiana State University with a bachelor’s degree in Arts and Science, joined his mother’s business as Executive Director this past August. “I can’t think of a better person to help me continue to grow as a person and a business leader and become an active member in the community. My mom is my hero. I hope to be as effective and inspiring as she has been in business. She has worked very hard to realize the American dream.”

In the business for over 20 years, Patty Galdamez came here from New Orleans and fell in love with Bradenton eight years ago-it reminded her of her hometown in Honduras, a small town near the water. She bought Bradenton Beauty and Barber Academy and the school and its students have been blossoming under her care ever since. In fact, the Academy’s success recently spurred Patty to open a second campus in Sebring.

Programs offered include Cosmetology, Barbering, Nail/Skincare Specialties, and Massage Therapy. The Academy helps students apply for financial aid, and assists graduates in taking the State Board exam, obtaining their license, and finding employment.

“We not only help our students,” Arturo adds, “we also offer inexpensive services to the public at a fraction of the cost of a retail salon.”

Courses at Bradenton Beauty and Barber Academy cover more in-depth training than techniques and skills. Included in the Cosmetology course, for instance, are subjects like salon management, sanitation, and other important aspects of the beauty industry.

Bradenton Beauty and Barber Academy is located at 5505 Manatee Avenue West, Bradenton. (941)761-4400. www.mybeautyacademy.com.
