"Outdoor kitchens have come a long way," says the Parrish resident. "I've seen some that would truly blow your mind. Popular options include stereo systems, televisions, custom fire pits and fireplaces, ice machines, pizza ovens, griddles, lighting, refrigeration drawers and custom awnings, to name a few."

For those with a more modest budget, Paul recommends sticking to the basics. "Keep it simple but get high quality equipment," he advises. Depending on the equipment, he estimates an average kitchen would cost $7,000 to $12,000, including a high-quality grill with side burner, sink, fridge and granite counter with high-top bar. "It really depends on what people want. I can build anything," he says.

Outdoor Retreats

Having a backyard pool is nice. But having a backyard tropical paradise is even nicer. Just ask Chris Hegedus, Parrish resident and owner of Residential Resorts, LLC. He specializes in transforming an ordinary pool into something worthy of a vacation destination. Imagine pools with rock waterfalls and grottos, bubbling fountains and spas, in-pool bars and lounge areas, tiki huts and elaborate decks.

"Our work is extremely custom, but we work to meet any budget," says Chris, who estimates 50% of his projects involve renovating existing pools.

Rock waterfalls and tiki huts are his two most-requested items. Also popular are retro fire pits and custom fireplaces. Some of the most popular add-on features to family-style swimming pools include adjacent spas where parents can relax while keeping a close eye on swimming kids, and a sun shelf where younger children can play in shallow water. "We can do almost anything," he says. "I have one job now where we are wrapping the beams of the pool cage to look like Roman columns. It's fantastic."

According to Chris, most of his pool renovations start at $40,000. His dream project had a $250,000 price tag and included waterfalls, bridges - the whole works.

In addition to pool design and construction, Chris also helps clients with designing landscaping and lighting plans, choosing tile and decking materials, and selecting outdoor furniture and backyard accessories like oversized hammocks and swings. When all things are considered, investing in outdoor living space not only adds to the value of your home, it also enhances your own enjoyment of your home. With a little planning, budgeting and some imagination, you can create an outdoor living area that is a great addition to your home and a natural reflection of your lifestyle.
