Lakewood Ranch – Almost everyone enjoys a good movie, but even those who don't can find something to entertain them here.

Lakewood Ranch Cinemas, which opened in December 2006, shows mainstream movies every day of the week and independent and foreign films Saturday and Sunday mornings. It holds filmmaker forums for movies with local ties, screens movies as part of the Sarasota Film Society's annual Cine-World Film Festival and hosts private parties.

The theater at the end of Main Street also has formed relationships with some of the businesses and restaurants that line the street and has held events in conjunction with Little Bookworms bookstore and MacAllisters Restaurant, which has a movie club that benefits it and the theater.

A variety of entertainers perform at the East Village Cabaret, which has had a different feel to it every night since opening over the summer.

A jazz trio may play one night, a comedienne perform the next. There's singing, dancing, hypnotizing, you name it, and in January the cabaret presented its first musical production, "The Last Five Years."

The theater on Lake Osprey Drive is intimate for performers as well as the audience. It looks like an old converted warehouse in New York's East Village, with ancient-looking bricks on the walls and murals of the city.

For music lovers who prefer outdoor music festivals to indoor entertainment, Music on Main is held the first Friday of every month on Main Street, and San Marco Plaza has a monthly Third Friday Piazza Party.

Both events feature live music, drinks and food.
Set to open at San Marco Plaza in the summer is the Golden Apple Dinner Theatre.
Plays, musicals and cabaret-style shows will grace the stage of the theater, which will have more than 250 seats, a balcony and a mezzanine.
The dinner theater will bring yet another entertainment option to Lakewood Ranch residents.
