Marcus Thames clubbed a two-run homer, walked and doubled as the Detroit Tigers beat the Pittsburgh Pirates, 4-1, in spring training action.
Curtis Granderson legged out an infield single in the first inning, then tripled in the third as the Tigers backed recently acquired right-hander Yorman Bazardo in two scoreless innings of work. Bazardo fanned a batter and walked three in the win.
Luis Rivas went 2-for-3 with a single and a triple, and also scored the Pirates' only run of the game. Starter Ian Snell struck out three in three inning of work, but allowed three runs, four hits and two walks in the loss.
