The paths of Pam Smith & Lance Scott crossed many times before they fell in love. They first met at the University of South Florida in 1969 when Lance was a Sigma Nu and Pam, a few years younger, joined the Sigma Nu Little Sisters. They each graduated from college and went on to marry other people and raise families.
Lance and Pam and their families moved to Miami and knew each other as social acquaintances. While their children were young, the two couples saw each other occasionally at family events such as Easter egg hunts and birthday parties.
Years later Pam and Lance, both now divorced and their children, six in all, now grown, bumped into each other at a Gator gathering - and their love story began. After a four-year engagement, the couple wed on May 12 of last year at Harrington House on Anna .Maria Island.
"I wanted a sunset on the beach wedding," says Pam. "And we wanted to stay at a bed and breakfast, something quaint and comfortable." She discovered Harrington House on line, and when Lance and Pam traveled from Miami to have a look, they knew it was the perfect spot for their wedding.
"It was a small wedding, just 38 people, with many couples we knew in college as well as family members," Pam says. The tropical beach wedding featured steel .drum music.
Why wed on Anna Maria Island and not somewhere in Miami? "Miami is too congested," Pam explains. "We wanted a place closer and easier for our guests to attend."
Lance, recently retired from Herff-Jones, a large high school graduation jewelry firm, and Pam, who works in commercial real estate for Collier's in Miami, love to travel. They recently enjoyed Buenos Aires'tango nightspots, and plan to spend Valentine's Day in London.
