DISTINGUISHED CITIZEN AWARD
A MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT
Dear Fellow Citizens of Manatee County, I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to the 93rd edition of the Manatee County Fair. Each year the Manatee River Fair Association Board of Directors plans and produces what we think is the best county fair in the State of Florida. Many hours of volunteer time go into producing this yearly event that showcases Manatee County and its rich Agricultural Heritage. This year the Manatee River Fair Association has chosen the theme of “Planting Memories” to spotlight our agricultural industry as well as our greatest harvest, the youth of Manatee County. Every year children from Manatee County make their first trip to the Manatee County Fair with their parents or grandparents. It is this first experience at the fair which leaves endearing memories of fun, food, livestock and entertainment that children will remember for the rest of their lives. Our fair has always been a place for citizens to stroll under large oak trees and rekindle old friendships as well as make new ones. Come have cotton candy, strawberry shortcake and a corn dog or two with friends and family and enjoy the 2009 Manatee County Fair by “Planting Memories” that will last for years to come!
Each year a citizen of Manatee County is selected for this award, recognizing outstanding service to the county. The presentation of this award was started in 1956. The award is presented prior to the Fair and later in the year there is a reception and “footprints” in concrete ceremony on the sidewalk of the Manatee County Courthouse with a bronze plaque.
