CORAL SPRINGS — The family of William Gorzynski, the 15-year-old accused of fatally stabbing his younger brother during a fight last week, is collecting signatures in a petition drive to have the teen tried as a juvenile, not as an adult.
Signatures are being gathered online through the Web site brothersinneed.com.
The family will present the petition to the State Attorney’s Office before Gorzynski’s next hearing, which has not been scheduled, said Glenn Roderman, the teen’s attorney.
The petition became available Friday and had received 1,000 signatures by Monday, Roderman said.
Gorzynski has been in a juvenile detention center since Oct. 26, when police said he stabbed his 14-year-old brother, Matthew, while fighting over computer noise at their Coral Springs home.
On Monday, dozens of teens gathered outside the Kraeer Funeral Home in Coral Springs to mourn Matthew — and try to save his jailed brother.
