PALMETTO — A Palmetto woman has been charged with theft and dealing in stolen property after she tried to pawn a drill and tape measure stolen from a Palmetto Walmart, according to the Palmetto Police Department.

Ashley Dawn Fox, 21, was arrested at 6:07 p.m. Tuesday at a Value Pawn, 908 Ninth Ave. W., Palmetto.

Fox was reportedly observed hiding the items in her purse inside Walmart, 508 10th St. E., Palmetto. She left the store before the loss prevention officer could stop her but she was seen leaving in a silver van and later spotted by a police officer in the van outside Value Pawn.

The officer reportedly entered the pawn shop as Fox was dealing with a representative holding a pink drill. Fox was arrested after the Walmart’s loss prevention official identified her.

Fox was being held on bonds totaling $7,620.
