Kanepi, Soler-Espinosa among winners in Bastad

Bastad, Sweden (SportsNetwork.com) - Kaia Kanepi of Estonia and Spain's Silvia Soler-Espinosa were among the second-round winners Thursday at the upset- filled Swedish Open.

Each of the top eight seeds were eliminated prior to Thursday, leaving eight unseeded women in the quarterfinals.

Kanepi has the most WTA Tour titles among the final eight with four. She was an easy 6-3, 6-1 winner Thursday over Dutch qualifier Richel Hogenkamp and will next play Germany's Mona Barthel in the quarterfinals.

Barthel, a two-time Tour winner, advanced Thursday with a 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 triumph over Canadian qualifier Gabriela Dabrowski.

Soler-Espinosa, this year's Strasbourg runner-up, rallied for a 4-6, 6-1, 6-3 victory over Germany's Julia Goerges and will next meet Russian Alexandra Panova, a 6-2, 6-4 winner over American Grace Min.

Friday's two other quarterfinals will feature Slovakia's Jana Cepelova against Kazakhstan qualifier Yulia Putintseva and South Africa's Chanelle Scheepers against Spain's Lara Arruabarrena.
