Scott Romine, violation of domestic violence injunction, domestic battery, tampering, no bond

MANATEE -- The Bradenton man who died after his girlfriend's husband punched him on Saturday died after going into cardiac arrest as a result of the incident, the Manatee County Sheriff's Office said an autopsy revealed.

Jospeh Civola, 61, had his new girlfriend over for the evening at his residence in the Royal Garden Estates mobile home park, 6904 Cortez Road, according to the original report of the incident.

Around 2:15 a.m. Saturday, the girlfriend's husband, 43-year-old Scott E. Romine, whom she has an injunction against, found her vehicle at the residence. The victim went outside to address Romine, who punched him, the report states. Both men fell to the ground, where they continued to fight.

Deputies were called to the scene to investigate. As they were interviewing the victim, he collapsed. He was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead, authorities said.

Romine is being charged with the violation of the injunction but not with anything related to the victim's death, according to deputies. However, the state may later make the decision to charge him over the incident.
