MANATEE -- A man was arrested early Tuesday morning on charges of choking, hitting and stealing from a woman, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

The victim was sitting on a bed in a room at Motel 6, in the 600 block of 67th Street Circle East, and talking to a girlfriend and suspect Chadwick Bush, 21, about going to a party at 4:30 a.m., according to a release. Bush became upset and pulled the victim down by her hair and began to choke her and punch her in the ribs, according to the sheriff's office.

The victim's friend told Bush she was calling the police and yelled for her boyfriend in the other room, who came in and attempted to get Bush off by striking him in the side, according to deputies.

Bush stole $40 from the victim's front pocket before getting off her and turning towards the friend's boyfriend. He was told the police were called, and he took the victim's cell phone before fleeing the area with his backpack, according to the sheriff's office.

Deputies spotted Bush behind a nearby Comfort Inn walking towards the back fence and told him to get down, but he started running, according to the release. A deputy shot him with a stun gun, but it was ineffective.

Bush was later found hiding behind a Dumpster by a police dog, according to deputies, and was arrested without further incident.

Bush is facing charges of domestic battery with strangulation and strong-arm robbery.
