Sarasota sheriff: Suspicious objects found on Swift Road, causes temporary closure

SARASOTA COUNTY -- Suspicious objects were found Monday afternoon on Swift Road near Grand Cayman, causing the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office to close the road to investigate.

According to a report, the Hazardous Devices Unit with the sheriff's office found a ceramic bowl containing a chicken head and feathers next to a cylindrical object inside of a paper bag in the road just before 1 p.m. The object was destroyed on scene after an X-ray could not determine the contents of the bag other than a "gel-like substance."

After 20 minutes passed, a bomb technician with the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office approached the suspicious item and cleared the scene, the report states. In a video sent to the media by the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office, viewers can see the fully-uniformed bomb technician near the item. Four orange cones were planted in the area, and a sheriff's patrol car was parked nearby.

Swift Road has since been reopened.
