The annual Suncoast Super Boat Grand Prix is bathed in the aura of glamor. Bikini contests and VIP events prove it. But the heart of the event is driven by pistons, oil and the sweat of drivers such as Miss Geico's Marc Granet, above, making adjustments to his boat.
As spectators lined up along the seawall at Centennial Park, the driver and throttleman on the Miss Geico and the entire support team on a separate boat chugged out of the dock area at a docile pace, headed to the waters off Lido Beach in Sarasota for an afternoon of testing prior to the races.
Team members, including a technology/data person, safety officer and various other specialists worked together to coordinate the test run. The hard work paid off as Miss Geico came in first in her class, the superboat unlimited, with a time of 45:43.
