Lakewood Ranch Little League wins section title, will host state tournament

BRANDON -- The Lakewood Ranch Little League All-Stars are coming home for the state tournament.

Ranch's 10-11 team breezed through the Section IV tournament this weekend at South Brandon Little League, finishing off Lake Wales 8-0 in the final Saturday.

That moves the team to the state tourney, which will be held beginning Friday at Lakewood Ranch.

"The kids are extremely excited," manager Dave Frishman said. "We expect a lot of fan support. We were an out away last year (as a 9-10 team) from going to state. It's a nice feeling to get there."

Nick Romagnola homered, and John Schroeder, Stone Frishman and Cam Martin combined to pitch a shutout in the championship game.

Earlier in the tournament, Lakewood Ranch defeated Land O'Lakes 16-3 and South Brandon 15-1. Martin went 3-for-3 with a homer, two doubles and four RBIs against Land O'Lakes. Brady Greenamoyer pitched four scoreless innings, striking out seven, in the South Brandon game.
