Improve U.S. 41 in Manatee County by mirroring Sarasota's dramatic version

Wow! The Florida Department of Transportation has finally decided to do improvements on U.S. 41 in Manatee County! Unfortunately, there does not appear to be any Manatee County involvement in the plans as presented in the July 9 issue of the Herald.

When you drive U.S. 41 from the Manatee River down to Sarasota County a dramatic improvement in the feel and aesthetics of the road jumps out at you as you pass University Parkway. With the addition of a planted center median and curb area, the road is instantly transformed into a beautiful boulevard.

With the same traffic, industrial 41 has been transformed into a very pleasant drive. There should be significant traffic safety benefits, too, as left turns across traffic would be limited to controlled areas.

Back in March of 2007, Manatee County was investigating what could be done to "revitalize" U.S. 41. So far there has been no action at all.

Now is the time for these features to be implemented on the Manatee County section of U.S. 41 as part of FDOT's plans with Manatee County support.
