Police: Man threatened to stab hospital guards with pair of scissors

BRADENTON -- A man was charged with battery, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and trespassing Wednesday after police say he attacked a Manatee Memorial Hospital employee, according to the Bradenton Police Department.

Brett J. Jordan, 31, was arrested at 7:01 p.m. Wednesday at the hospital, 206 2nd St. E., Bradenton. According to a report, he was stopped by security at the hospital after causing a disturbance. As he was being escorted by two security guards, Jordan reportedly told them that he was going to stab one of them in the chest and refused to leave.

Jordan struck one of the guards in the hand, the report states. The guard defended himself by pushing Jordan back, police said. Jordan then lifted the right side of his shirt, exposing the orange handle of a pair of scissors and grasped it with his right hand. Both guards feared for their lives, according to the report.

Jordan was held down and arrested by responding officers. He was being held on bonds totaling $8,500.
