Palmetto public works employees merit thanks for July Fourth, too

July 11, 2014

Last Friday, I attended the annual Fourth of July celebration at Sutton Park in Palmetto. Before Scotty McCreery took the stage, Mayor Shirley Groover-Bryant and visiting DJs thanked city commissioners and the major organizers of the event.

I would like to be sure that another hard-working group gets some recognition: the employees of the Palmetto Public Works Department.

While many of us enjoyed a day off with friends and family, these individuals were on the clock ensuring trash cans were emptied, the bathroom was well-stocked, and the stage was set up so the show could go on!

I have had the opportunity to work in the Public Works Department in an interim position for the summer and am privy to the ways these employees keep the city running and enhance the lives of residents everyday. Thank you for what you do!
