— Officials are investigating a fatal crash involving personal watercraft near Sarasota.

According to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, 25-year-old Zachary Thomas Collins of New Lexington, Ohio, died in the Wednesday evening crash.

Collins sustained injuries to his skull and pelvis. Rescue officials say he went into trauma arrest — which is cardiac arrest caused by his injuries.

He was taken to a hospital where he died late Wednesday.

The wildlife agency says 25-year-old Keaton Fowler, also of New Lexington, Ohio, sustained injuries that were not life-threatening.

There was no word on how the crash occurred.
