MANATEE -- A Bradenton man was charged Sunday with aggravated battery after an argument with someone over car keys, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

Jason J. Godfrey, 39, was arrested at 11:02 p.m. According to a report, Godfrey and another man were in a verbal argument in front of his home over a friend's car keys.

The argument turned physical when, according to deputies, Godfrey grabbed a broom stick and charged at the victim.

"The victim attempted to get away, but the defendant swung the broom stick and struck the victim on the back of his thigh one time," the report states.

The victim suffered two bruise marks on his thighs, according to a report.

Godfrey was being held in jail without bond.
