BRADENTON -- A Manatee County Public Works employee was arrested on charges of molestation and possession of child pornography on Thursday, according to the Bradenton Police Department.

James Edward Yates, 41, was charged with three counts of lewd and lascivious molestation of a child under 12 years old and 10 counts of possession of child pornography as a result of police executing a search warrant on his residence in Myakka, according to police reports. He was arrested Thursday around 7 or 8 p.m.

The victim knew Yates personally, according to Detective Kevin Bunch.

Bunch said the arrest was made as part of a federal investigation, but said he couldn't give further details of the investigation or what prompted the warrant.

Yates was being held at the Manatee County jail on bonds totaling $80,000.
