Braden River youth baseball team wins sectional title

WELLINGTON -- The Braden River Intermediate 50-70 team won its sectional championship over the weekend, defeating teams from Temple Terrace and Auburndale.

Braden River will advance to the state tournament Friday in Wellington, near West Palm Beach. The three-team Section 4 tournament started at 9 a.m. Saturday and finished after midnight Sunday.

Braden River, which has its home field on State Road 70 in southern Manatee County, played two games back-to-back because of delays caused by lightning. The margin at the end of the fifth inning of the second game was 20-6. Little League rules allow games to end at the end of the fifth if the margin is at least 10 runs. Normal games run seven innings.
