We make decisions during our lives that can take us on a journey in pursuit of opportunities that were beyond our imagination.
For me, the decision to join Suncoast Workforce in 2009, now known as CareerSource Suncoast, was the start of a new, rewarding career helping businesses grow and working with people of all ages and backgrounds to advance their careers.
As the new president and CEO, my vision for CareerSource Suncoast is to remain aligned with state, regional and local economic development strategies.
We believe that strong community partnerships are the bedrock for meeting economic development objectives. Through collaboration, we leverage resources to deliver community-based solutions for recruiting, training and retaining talent for the Suncoast.
One example that comes to mind is JRL Ventures, dba Marine Concepts, a composites tooling and fiberglass parts manufacturer that expanded into Manatee County. Manatee County Government, Enterprise Florida, Bradenton Area Economic Development Corporation and CareerSource Suncoast were among the partners that helped bring their expansion to fruition, resulting in 100 new jobs.
Community partnerships are vital for building capacity and developing a continuous pipeline of talent for meeting businesses' current and future needs. Local residents seeking to advance their careers now have non-traditional means for developing their skills in a highly competitive job market.
New tactics include professional networking, state-of-the art resume and career counseling, on-the-job training and employed worker training to develop new skills.
In the coming years, I envision that we will continue strengthening our existing community partnerships and build new ones. It is through aligning strategies and leveraging resources that we improve the economic climate for business, create opportunities for career advancement and help our community compete in a global economy.
Ted Ehrlichman, appointed president and CEO of CareerSource Suncoast on June 1, wrote this for the Herald. CareerSource Suncoast Mission: To recruit, train and retain talent for the Suncoast.
