New principals picked for Blackburn, Stewart elementary schools.

Blackburn, Stewart get new principals

MANATEE -- The Manatee School District on Thursday announced new principals for Stewart and Blackburn elementary schools.

Lynne Menard will be principal at Stewart Elementary. She comes from an assistant principal position at Moody Elementary.

Marla Massi-Blackmore will be principal at Blackburn Elementary. She comes from an assistant principal position at Oneco Elementary.

All principal vacancies in the district have been filled pending board approval. The district is still working to fill some assistant principal vacancies, officials said this week.

County animal shelter offering free adoptions

PALMETTO -- Manatee County Animal Services is offering free adoptions of cats and dogs through the holiday weekend.

All pets adopted will receive a health check and be spayed or neutered, vaccinated (including rabies) and microchipped. Manatee County residents will have to purchase the required license tag for a $15 fee.

The county's shelter, at 305 25th St. W., Palmetto, is open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to noon Sunday.

Greenbrook neighborhood to host safety meeting

LAKEWOOD RANCH -- The next Greenbrook safety meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. Monday at Lakewood Ranch Town Hall.

In attendance will be Deputy Russell Younger of the Manatee County Sheriff's Office and U.S. Security representative Terry Conrad. The meeting will include updates from the sheriff's office and the Greenbrook security patrol.
