BRADENTON -- Police are interviewing a man about the shooting of another man in East Bradenton, according to the Bradenton Police Department.
At 11:27 a.m. Wednesday, police responded to a reported shooting in the 1000 block of 20th Street East. A male victim was found with three gunshot wounds to his stomach.
The victim was taken to Blake Medical Center and is in stable condition.
Police reportedly located Xavier Dante Walker, 33, to discuss a possible charge of attempted murder. He has not been arrested.
"We are getting more information from Mr. Walker than we had," Bradenton Police Lt. James Racky said. "If he is charged, we are still not sure what the pending charges will be."
Police are still trying to identify the motive behind the shooting.
"We want to reach out to (the victim) again now that we have spoken with Mr. Walker, to see if we can get down to the truth," Racky said.
It was unclear when the decision would be made on the pending charges, Racky said late Thursday afternoon.
The victim has been uncooperative with police, he said. But the two men do know each other, and police are reportedly famil
iar with both men.
"Separate witnesses or people who heard what happened identified him as the shooter," Racky said. "We don't know if the incident between these gentlemen was related to drugs."
Police have not recovered the firearm used in the shooting. Two different bullet casings were recovered at the scene.
Walker's past convictions include possession of cocaine with intent to sell, sale of marijuana and confinement of animals without sufficient food, water or exercise.
He is now on probation for a charge of possession of marijuana from 2013.
The victim's criminal history includes convictions for violation of a domestic injunction, misdemeanor battery, felony battery, possession of cocaine with intent to sell, selling cocaine within 1,000 feet of a place of worship, trespassing, resisting arrest with violence, resisting arrest without violence, petty theft, criminal mischief, battery and battery on a law enforcement officer.
