Parrish man wins $1 million on lottery scratch-off ticket

HERALD STAFF REPORTJuly 3, 2014

— A Manatee County man is about $1 million richer after he purchased a winning scratch-off lottery ticket at a local Publix.

John Collins, 73, of Parrish, claimed a $1 million prize in the 100x The Cash scratch-off game, the Florida Lottery announced.

"My family and I didn't believe that I had won until I checked my ticket on the Express Check scanner," Collins said in a Florida Lottery news release. He and his family then packed up the family vehicle and drove immediately to Tallahassee on Monday to claim the prize at the lottery's headquarters.

Collins chose to receive his winnings as a one-time, lump sum payment of $716,410,48, the Florida Lottery said.

He purchased his winning ticket from Publix, 9005 U.S. 301 N., Parrish. The store will receive a $2,000 bonus commission for selling the winning ticket.
