Parrish tomato farm sells for $5.25M

PARRISH -- 4 Star Tomato, a Parrish tomato farm, has sold 650 acres of cropland at 18650 County Road 675 for $5.25 million.

Rutland Ranch Farms LLC, a Florida company owned by John Falkner of Falkner Farms in Myakka City, bought the property Friday, Manatee County records show.

Shackleford purchased the acreage at the intersection of Rutland Road and North Rye Road, from the estate of Hubert Rutland Sr. in 1991. He paid $1.49 million, according to property records. 4 Star Tomato incorporated in 1975, according to state business filings.

Phone calls to Bruce Shackelford, president of 4 Star Tomato, and Faulkner were not returned Tuesday.

Manatee to host workshop for lenders, Realtors

MANATEE -- Manatee County Neighborhood Services Department will host a training workshop for lenders and realtors who assist homebuyers through the State Housing Initiative Partnership.

The workshop will be held from 9-11 a.m. July 11, in the fourth-floor Manatee Room of the Couty Administration Building, 1112 Manatee Ave. W. Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m.

LWR construction firm chosen for utilities project

LAKEWOOD RANCH -- Manatee County has selected Halfacre Construction Co. to renovate and rebuild its aging utility operations building on 66th Street in Bradenton.

"After the standard request for proposals process, approximately eight firms submitted proposals for the project," said Tom Yarger, construction services manager for Manatee County. "After short listing three firms and going through an interview process, we chose Halfacre Construction Co. based on their superior qualifications."

The new, energy efficient structure operations facility will house Manatee County Utilities' fiscal and administrative staff, a separate building for maintenance workers, plus vehicle parking, office space and lockers.

Halfacre will break ground in about six months. The project is expected to take nine months to complete.

Manatee chamber plans two networking events

MANATEE -- The Manatee Chamber of Commerce will hold its monthly business after hours from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at Drips 'n' Puddles, 3904 U.S. 301, Ellenton. Chamber members and prospective members are invited to enjoy appetizers and networking. There is no charge to attend for members and $10 for non-members.

The chamber will also host a power networking lunch for members from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 16 at The BeachHouse Restaurant, 200 Gulf Dr. N, Bradenton Beach.
