The mall expected to open Oct. 16

UNIVERSITY PARK -- The Mall at University Town Center will be boasting a bevy of beauty bars when it opens this fall.

Kiehl's is one of the latest cosmetics stores and counters to join the two-level, 880,000-square-foot mall being built on Cattlemen Road and University Parkway.

Kiehl's started out as Brunswick Apotheke in New York's East Village in 1851, before being bought out in 1894 by John Kiehl to become Kiehl Pharmacy. The company sells potions and lotions that tout anti-aging properties, and also carries a line of men's products.

This would be the first standalone Kiehl's in Southwest Florida as the products are mainly carried inside department stores in the area.

The company has been expanding its standalone stores recently, since L'Orea developed the brand further after acquiring Kiehl's in 2000.

Kiehl's will join cosmetics stores Aveda, Bath and Body Works, MAC and Sephora in addition to cosmetics counters inside Dillard's, Macy's and Saks Fifth Avenue.

The Mall at UTC is expected to feature more than 100 stores and restaurants and is the only indoor mall set to open in the U.S. this year.
