Mall cop shot by his own gun while chasing suspects

A Sweewater officer shot himself in the leg while he was pursuing shoplifters at the Dolphin Mall in Miami-Dade County.

The incident happened on Sunday after four suspects took off through the sprawling mall.

Officers at the mall gave chase. The gun of one of the officers went off in his holster, injuring him. He was in good condition at the hospital.

One suspect was arrested: Darius Brown, 18, was charged with felony theft, robbery and resisting without violence.
