MANATEE -- After a DUI suspect refused to get back in his vehicle and a brief foot pursuit, the Manatee County Sheriff's Office said deputies hit the suspect with a stun gun and arrested him early Monday morning.

A deputy made a traffic stop for expired tags and a suspected DUI at 3:00 a.m. Monday on Donald James Thompson, 36, according to a report.

After Thompson exited the vehicle he refused to get back in the car and started running in the 5100 block of 11th Avenue West, according to deputies. A deputy hit him with a stun gun, which struck the suspect in his back and left leg.

Thompson was charged with driving with a suspended license and nonviolently resisting arrest, according to the report.
