SARASOTA — A clerk at the Dollar General Store foiled an apparent armed burglary attempt by telling the suspect to leave the store at 4444 Bee Ridge Road in Sarasota.

The Sarasota Police Department responded to a call at 5:06 p.m. Sunday after a suspect reportedly demanded the clerk open the register saying he had a gun. The clerk reportedly told the suspect to leave and a 6-foot-1 male in his mid-30s with dark hair and a goatee wearing a white T-shirt with Mario Brothers on the front, dark gray shorts, black sneakers and sunglasses did just that in a newer model light-green sedan.

Detectives with the Criminal Investigation Section are investigating.
