IMG's Mika Liu wins WWGA national amateur title

IMG Academy student Mika Liu defeated 143 players to win the Women's Western Golf Association's 114th National Amateur Championship in Lancaster, Pa.

Liu, 15 years old and a rising sophomore at IMG, defeated University of Alabama golfer Cammie Gray 3 and 2 in the 36-hole final match Saturday at Lancaster Country Club. She joins Beth Daniel, Cristie Kerr, Stacy Lewis and Nancy Lopez as winners of the WWGA event.

Liu, who led by one hole after the morning 18, took control of the match with birdies on the first three holes of the afternoon round. She eventually led by six holes with six to play before Gray made a late charge.

Already this year, Liu has won the Women's Southern Golf Association Championship and placed fifth out of 140 players in a LPGA Symetra Tour event in California.
