UNIVERSITY PARK -- Swimwear boutique OndadeMar hopes to make a splash with a new store inside the Mall at University Town Center.

The Colombian luxury swimwear brand plans to open its fifth store in the United States with the opening of a 1,200-square-foot boutique on the mall's second level near Macy's.

OndadeMar has a large international presence but has just four stores in the United States: one in Los Angeles, two in Miami and one in Miami Beach. The Mall at UTC store will be the first OndadeMar in Southwest Florida.

The store's website promotes its designer swimwear as being laid back but sophisticated. Men's trunks retail for $108 on the company's online catalog while women's bikini sets are upwards of $200.

OndadeMar will compete against Orlando-based Everything But Water beachwear shop at the mall and join other luxury retailers, such as Michael Kors, Stuart Weitzman, kate spade, Omega and Calypso St. Barth inside the two-level, 880,000-square-foot mall.

Also, GNC Live Well will have a 1,000-square-foot store on the first level of the mall near Dillard's. GNC, which sells nuturitional supplements, has about a dozen locations in the Manatee-Sarasota area, including inside the DeSoto Square mall and the Westfield Southgate Mall.

The Mall at UTC will feature anchors Apple, Crate & Barrel, H&M, Dillard's, Macy's plus 100 stores and restaurants. The mall on Cattlemen Road and University Parkway is expected to open Oct. 16.
