Sarasota woman charged in shoplifting by Manatee deputies

SARASOTA — A Sarasota women was charged with shoplifting after deputies say she hid items in her purse at a 7-Eleven, according to the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office.

Stephenie Thomas, 32, was arrested at 8:24 a.m. Wednesday at 2581 Whitfield Ave., Sarasota.

A store employee reportedly saw Thomas concealing items in her purse and stopped her. Thomas reportedly told deputies she stole the items because she was hungry and had no money.

The items were valued at $4 and, according to the report, and $10 was found on her during a search.

Thomas was booked in jail and was released Thursday on $120 bond.
