MANATEE -- A man was attacked and robbed by an unknown suspect after shopping at Ray's Food Mart Wednesday night, according to the Manatee Sheriff's Office.

The suspect approached the 50-year-old victim and asked if he would like to buy some Oakley sunglasses, but the victim declined, according to a report. The suspect followed the victim as he went into the store and over to the ATM to withdraw money.

The victim purchased a beer and other items from the Ray's Food Mart at 5402 26th Street West and left, according to deputies. When the victim reached the gated access to an apartment complex the suspect ran up behind him and began to hit him.

Deputies said the victim fell to the ground, and the suspect took his wallet and ran. Deputies could not locate the suspect, and the victim suffered only minor injuries and denied treatment.

The suspect was described as 5'10, 160 pound male with blonde curly hair and a beard.
