Bradenton's Hally Leadbetter and Mika Liu are competing this week at the Women's Western Golf Association's 114th National Amateur Championship in Lancaster, Pa.
Liu posted a 144 total to take the lead following Tuesday's second round, while Leadbetter had a 158 total through 36 holes.
Leadbetter's tally got her into a playoff for one of the final four spots into the Championship Flight. However, she lost out and began Wednesday's match-play portion in the First Flight.
Liu, the top seed, defeated Colorado native Hannah Wood 2 and 1 in the Round of 64 match Wednesday in the Championship Flight. Leadbetter defeated South Carolina's Ashley Rose 2-up in the Round of 16 in the First Flight.
Three Bradenton golfers made the cut in last week's Florida State Golf Association's Amateur Championship held in Vero Beach at Hawk's Nest Golf Club and Quail Valley Golf Club.
Bradenton Christian's Philip Knowles had the best showing with a tie for 21st after a 293 total for the 72-hole tournament.
Recent Lakewood Ranch graduates Danny Walker (298) and Ramsey Touchberry (305) also made the cut.
The tournament was won by Lake Mary's Gabriel Lench with a 282 total.
County junior golfers excelled at the recent Greater Sarasota Junior Golf Association tournament held on the Harbourside Course at the Longboat Key Club.
Lakewood Ranch's Matthew de Heus scored a victory in the boys 12-and-younger division with a 76 on Monday.
Bradenton's Chandler Hammett took third place in the boys 13-15 age division with a 77, while Lakewood Ranch's Louie DelFabro was third in the boys 16-18 division with a 74.
Lakewood Ranch's Katie Kroos-Roberts won the girls 13-15 group with an 85. Lakewood Ranch's Ashlyn Einwachter claimed the girls 12-and-younger title with a 108.
On the nine-hole Futures Tour, Bradenton's Yifu Zhu posted a 43 to take second place in the boys 10-and-younger division, Lakewood Ranch's Oliver Warren won the boys 11-and-older division with a 47, and Bradenton's Sienna Cassella had a 65 to win the girls 10-and-younger division.
On May 29 at Rosedale, Jon Bergsveinsson aced the 156-yard 13th hole with a 5-iron. Witness was Bergsveinn Bergsveinsson.
On June 11 at The River Club, Jesse Davis aced the 167-yard 12th hole with a 5-wood. Witnesses were Mike Riggs, Sam Hollies and Wayne Kitch.
On June 14 at Esplanade, Ron Brunetto aced the 173-yard 8th hole with a 4-iron. Witness was Bob Musca.
On June 14 at University Park, William B. Nelson aced the 185-yard 11th hole with a 4-iron. Witnesses were Mark Botts and Dick June.
On June 18 at Terra Ceia, Bill Dittmore aced the 145-yard 8th hole with a 7-iron. Witness was Jerry Barkholz.
