SARASOTA -- A woman died in Sarasota Wednesday morning when she was wedged between a power pole and the driver's side door of her vehicle, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The victim, Alys Arnall, 62, was stopped facing west on Yale Street just west of North Elm Street in Englewood, at 8:10 a.m., according to a report. Not realizing the car was in reverse and not park, she attempted to exit the vehicle.

The car began to back up eastbound with Arnall still halfway out of the driver's side door, according to troopers. She was unable to pull herself back into the car before she was struck by the power pole.

The car continued in reverse with Arnall stuck between the power pole and the driver's side door. She died as a result of her injuries, according to the report.
