June 25, 2014

SARASOTA -- A 25-year-old man was arrested on charges of trafficking in heroin on Tuesday, according to the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office.

Undercover officers made several drug buys of five grams each for $550 from Darryl D. Ortiz-Caberera, a Sarasota barber who was born in the Dominican Republic, according to a release. He was charged with four counts of trafficking in heroin and was taken into custody Tuesday afternoon on Lockwood Ridge Road.

When deputies searched his apartment they found more than a half-kilo of heroin. At that point he was charged with a fifth count of trafficking.

The sheriff's office is working in conjunction with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) on the case.

Caberera is being held in the Sarasota County jail without bond.
