MANATEE -- A Bradenton woman was charged with child neglect after she passed out in her bathroom and her 2-year-old son open the front door of their apartment and walked outside early Sunday, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

Ryan M. Burton, 29, had left her son with a babysitter while she was out. When she returned home to her apartment in the 3000 block of 54th Avenue Drive East about 2 a.m. Sunday, her son was asleep, according to a news release.

About 4:20 a.m., Burton and her child were asleep when Burton felt sick and went into the bathroom, where she passed out, according to the report.

"The child woke up and opened the front door and walked outside," the report states. "The babysitter, who was in a different apartment in the same building, observed the child walking outside alone calling for his mother."

The sheriff's office responded and the child was found unharmed.

Booking information for Burton, who faces a charge of child neglect, was not available on the Manatee County jail website.
