Sheriff's SWAT unit arrests domestic battery suspect in Ellenton

MANATEE -- A Manatee County Sheriff's Office SWAT unit arrested a domestic battery suspect Wednesday morning in Ellenton, according to the sheriff's office.

About 8:43 a.m., deputies responded to the 3400 block of 15th Street East after an argument between Roosevelt Brooks and a woman turned violent, according to a news release.

During the disturbance, Brooks grabbed a handgun from the bedroom and closed the door behind him. The woman's 10-year-old son was also in the room, according to the sheriff's office.

The woman called the sheriff's office.

While the SWAT unit was on scene, the boy came out unharmed, according to the report.

"The remainder of the home was searched by the suspect was not located," the report states.

The sheriff's Aviation Unit notified other deputies that screen windows had been removed from the house next door.

Deputies found Brooks hiding in the neighbor's tool shed in the back yard, according to the report.

The sheriff's office said Brooks faces a charge of domestic battery, but booking information was not available on the Manatee County jail website.
