Car plunges into water near John's Pass, emergency crews at the scene

Emergency crews are at the scene along Gulf Boulevard. The vehicle went into the water just before 4:30 a.m.

MADEIRA BEACH -- A vehicle went off a roadway and into the Gulf of Mexico early Wednesday in the John's Pass area.

According to the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office, emergency crews are at the scene near Gulf Boulevard.

Officials said a vehicle was driven off the roadway, down a walkway out onto the beach and into the gulf. The vehicle went into the water just before 4:30 a.m. The car remains submerged in the water.

A dive team is working to find how many people, if any, are in the water.
